Jenny, who served as Vice President of CCR, dedicated her life to justice, compassion, and the empowerment of those facing immigration detention and displacement. Her untimely departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.
Jenny’s commitment to human rights was unparalleled. She played a pivotal role in advocating for the dignity and fair treatment of refugees, ensuring their voices were heard in policy discussions and government meetings. Known for her gentle demeanor yet steadfast resolve, she was a guiding light for countless individuals seeking refuge and justice in Canada. Her work extended beyond advocacy—she personally stood by those in need, offering unwavering support and encouragement.
For over two decades, Jenny was deeply involved in CCR, serving not only as Vice President but also as Co-Chair of the Inland Protection Working Group. Her influence reached far and wide, including her impactful tenure at Action Réfugiés Montréal, where she coordinated the Detention Program, visiting detainees at the Laval Immigration Holding Centre and advocating for their rights. She also pioneered initiatives such as the ARM pairing program and the men’s support group, further demonstrating her holistic approach to community care.
Jenny’s expertise and dedication made her a highly respected figure in the field of immigration advocacy. She was a trusted resource for the media, a compelling voice in parliamentary hearings, and a sought-after speaker at public forums and universities. Her mentorship extended to the many interns and students she guided, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of human rights defenders.
Above all, Jenny was a beloved friend and colleague, known for her kindness, integrity, and unwavering belief in a better world. She championed refugee leadership within CCR, always ensuring that those with lived experience were at the forefront of discussions and decision-making. Her leadership was defined by humility—never seeking the spotlight, but always the first to step up and do the essential work behind the scenes.
Jenny’s passing is an immeasurable loss not only to CCR but to the broader human rights community in Canada. Jenny is survived by her husband Colm, her daughters Orla and Olivia, and her beloved dog Dusty. The CCR family extends our deepest condolences to them and to all who held Jenny dear.
